Last year, my gay-straight alliance, which I am president of, decided to wear black ribbons on the Day of Silence (
http://www.dayofsilence.org) in memory of Lawrence King, and all others silenced by anti-LGBT violence.
This year, I want to expand it beyond my school. Wear a black ribbon! Even if you can't be silent, this is still something you can do.
Here's my blog entry about it from last year:
http://missnomered.wordpress.com/2008/04/21/the-black-ribbon-campaign-we-are-lawrence/All you need is some ribbon (you can find it at craft stores) and a pin. Don't just stop at one, though. Give ribbons to your family, friends and co-workers. Also, on my blog, there's a "virtual" ribbon you can post on your blog or website. It's easy - just copy and paste the code!
