Blatter Tells Gays: 'No Sex In Qatar 2022'

The president of football's international governing body was speaking at a press conference in South Africa arranged to discuss the legacy of this year's tournament.

He was asked what he would say to gay football fans who want to go to Qatar for the 2022 competition, given that homosexuality is banned in the middle eastern country.

"I would say they should refrain from any sexual activities," he said.

He went on to insist that he believed discrimination would not be an issue in Qatar by 2022, saying "we are living in a world of freedom".

If Qatar were to decriminalise homosexuality by 2022, then it would be a genuine reason for having selected them as hosts. But I think it's highly unlikely - they've not attempted to do is so far, and there was nothing in the bid about "we'll liberalise our laws".

...select freedoms. For Qatar to modify it's stance on homosexuality would require a deep examination of the country's Muslim roots, and examination of Muslim doctrine and scripture. Every controlling and triangulating entity -- whether it be regime or religion -- needs it's "whipping boys," and Gays are the pariahs of today's Islam.

What he should have said to be honest is that: "...since a country whose religion is an Abrahamic throwback to the 11th century will be host country for 2012, and given that said religion actively discriminates and persecutes Gay, Lesbian, Transgendered and Bisexual individuals, those persons will be well advised to refrain from their normal sexual activities while in Qatar."
