Maine Gays Pin Rights Hopes On College Students

The fight to fend off the repeal of Maine's LGBT civil rights law has spread onto university and college campuses as the state's biggest gay rights organization mounts an aggressive get-out-the-vote campaign.

Voters go to the polls in six weeks to consider a proposal that would void the law which was enacted in March. (story) It protects gays, lesbians and the transgendered from discrimination in housing, employment and credit.

A conservative Christian group opposed to the law gathered enough signatures to put a repeal measure on the November ballot.
