Law and Justice won power on a platform that vowed to fight LGBT civil rights, oppose any relaxation of the law against abortion, and strict conservative economic policies.
Following the election the European Union warned Poland not to try to limit the rights of gays and lesbians. (story) The European Commission said that if the government continues to oppose gay rights Poland risks losing its voting rights in the EU.
