http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/03/032206spitzer.htmNew York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer has become the first candidate for governor in the history of the Empire State to publicly endorse same-sex marriage - even though he is currently in court defending a state law banning gay unions.
Spitzer is the frontrunner in the race for the Democratic nod for governor. His expected running mate, Senate Minority Leader David Paterson also supports same-sex marriage as do all six people seeking the Democratic nomination for Attorney General and state Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi, also a Democrat.
They are all among more than 40 elected officials across NY state who have signed onto an initiative by Empire State Pride Agenda - New York's LGBT rights group - called New Yorkers for the Freedom to Marry.
"We are proud that elected officials all across the state are joining clergy members in standing up for our families and for a New York where all people are treated equally under the law,” said Alan Van Capelle, Executive Director of Pride Agenda.
