Ya know, I can't remember where I got this website from, it may have been from another post here on the topic.
Anyway, it is a diferent look at Alzheimer's and dementia.

1. my dad,

an Alzheimer's victim, formed a very strong attachment with another Alzheimer's patient in his care facility. Which was great and beautiful and comforting - EXCEPT TO MY MOTHER!! Who was in the undiagnosed early stages of senile dementia - though I don't know whether that had much to do with her reaction. They'd been married for over 50 years and she would visit the home every day to see him. It would upset her so much to see him spending time with this "other woman!"

The staff soon learned to make sure they weren't together when my Mother arrived and to keep the "other woman" occupied until she was gone.

I understand her pain, really. It was such a sad thing all around.

3. my first job was working at a nursing home and well....

the nurses came walking down the hall laughing their heads off...of course i had to ask what they were laughing at...

the couple were in their 90`s,married for 70yrs, suffering from alzheimers.and yes were having meaningful relations.....i think the nurses were sort of jealous.


ok now for the serious bits

what i have experienced with my grandmothers is the more time i spent with them the "happier" they seemed to be. my daughter`s boyfriends grandmother is going through this now and unfortunately she has really no one to talk to.
