Rave about something, dammit.
Anybody out there diggin' on something new or at least new to them? Hell, is anyone diggin' on something that's not new that you just want to give a shameless plug to?

I'll start, and hopefully I won't be my own threadkiller, and others will join in...

1. I'm digging the new issue (I just got it, I know) of Herbivore. It's the music issue, and Joan Jett (be still my heart) is on the cover, and interviewed inside.
http://www.herbivoreclothing.com/magazine.page.html

Also from Herbivore, if anyone is compiling a festivus gift list for me, I'd like one of these:

Also very much liking the newest VegNews: http://www.vegnews.com/current_issue.html

2. Kiss My Face. I'm all about the Peaceful Patchouli moisturizer. I also have to admit that I played hoarder with the Lavender/Sandalwood hand soap they sold through Old Navy. The smell is addictive.

3. Music. Where would we be without it? Stuck in traffic with nothing to listen to. That said, two of my favorite veg* artists have new s*it coming out. Rise Against new CD on the 4th (though I got an advance listen, thanks, L) http://www.riseagainst.com/ and the Beastie Boys DVD, "Awesome, I F'ing Shot That" is out July 25th. http://www.awesomeishotthat.com/main/

4. Habitat wine. I don't think I need to explain. It's Napa, vegan and organic. http://www.habitatwines.com/wines.html

1. I do like that shirt
Edited on Sun Jul-02-06 07:06 PM by LeftyMom
I look godawful in red though. :(

KMF is having a sale: http://www.kissmyface.com/CategoryNav/Kiss+My+Face/Dollar+Store/1/

Random crap that makes me happy:

My No Sweat shoes. I have these http://www.nosweatapparel.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=5015&Category_Code=NSS&Product_Count=7 and these http://www.nosweatapparel.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=5000&Category_Code=NSS&Product_Count=8 and I really like them.

My Vegan Porn shirt, which is soft and nice and sweatshop free, but also really silly (and I look hawt in it!)

Trader Joe's citrus refresh body care. It's vegan, it smells good, it's $2 a bottle. What's not to love?

Sunflour's little mini cookies in lemony lemon. :9 I get one pretty much everytime I'm at the store.

I'm forgetting things I'm sure. That's a good list to start with.

Edit: Vegan Sweets! How could I send you white chocolate cookies and fatten you up if I couldn't get any suitable white chocolate? http://www.veganstore.com/index-store.html?deptid=17125&parentid=45&stocknumber=809&page=2&itemsperpage=12 So good. :9

2. Have you checked out the KMF Dollar Store?

I stocked up on a bunch of stuff awhile ago. I love the shaving cream, soaps, and lip balm.

4. I can rave
1. Tempeh. I'm plain addicted to the stuff. :9 I use it in stir fries with various veggies, in Pad Thai or on its own with different side dishes. If it weren't for me going vegetarian I never would have discovered this delectable food.

2. Summer fruits. Watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, cantaloupe--all at more affordable prices since they are in season. The berries are especially good in vanilla yogurt.

3. Trader Joe's citrus body wash and lotion, and moisturizing shampoo/conditioner. All cruelty free and $1.99 a bottle. No laurel/laureth-sulfates either!

5. I love garbanzo beans
I think they are really interesting. I love the shape of the pea-bean and they make fabulous dishes. :hi:

Garbanzo Beans (Chickpeas)
Diet Nutrition

Like most beans, garbanzo beans are rich in the best sort of fiber - soluble fiber - which helps to eliminate cholesterol from the body. They are a useful source of folate, vitamin E, potassium, iron, manganese, copper, zinc and calcium. As a high-potassium, low-sodium food they help reduce blood pressure.

To avoid flatulence introduce beans gradually into your diet. In addition, to avoid indigestion when using dried beans, follow cooking instructions carefully, as most beans require several hours soaking in order to destroy the bean toxin lectin. If using canned beans, please note that most varieties are canned in a salt solution, so rinse well before using.

Calories in Garbanzo Beans/Chickpeas:
1 cup cooked = 285 calories

Booyah

I love this animal! He is the most wonderful dog! He still gets a little over zealous when he sees the squirrels, but he's a much better behaved dog outside. We've been able to set up one of the feeders in the back yard again. When he plays with his towel it is the silliest thing to watch. Jeff throws the towel across the yard, Booyah runs after it & as he comes back he tosses it in the air & romps with it. Sometimes it gets flipped over his head or wrapped around his snout. He is so much fun!

on edit: Great links in this thread!
I am going to have to try those donuts. :9

7. Lots of birds!!
I have three new birds sharing my life! Two are budgies whose humans moved abroad. They are not tame and not people-oriented, but they are fun to watch just being birds, and eventually they'll become friendly. Budgies are so funny, and I love the sounds they make. Gideon isn't sure what to make of the budgies yet; he freaks out when they fly near him. (He has issues with flight, being both acrophobic and afraid of flying things.) The third bird came to me by way of an acquaintence and is a passerine with permanent wing damage. He is pretty friendly, leery of being held but he will take treats from my fingers and accept scritches. He makes the sound of a cell phone, and I think it would be neat if he learned to talk. Gideon has so far been indifferent to him, because he doesn't fly.

10. Turkeys
Who knew they were so soft, or that they have such neat eyes? They'll come when called like a dog and walk up and demand to be petted like a cat, too.

Look at one's face straight on or watch his feet as they walk, and thier dinosaur ancestry is so very obvious.

Amazing.

13. We have a lone wild turkey that visits our yard almost daily.
Usually I see them in flocks, but this one is always alone. I feel bad for her. Plus, she has very little fear of humans, so the hunting season makes me worry about her.

She comes around, eats the fallen seed from around our birdfeeder and whatever the rabbits kick out of their outside "playpen." The rabbits seem to just have a confused interest in her.

I refer to her as Gobbles.

14. Funny story involving the KMF Peaceful Patchouli Moisturizer.
A few years ago, I was driving home from school for winter break after my last final. I get pulled over for speeding and I'm wearing the patchouli lotion. I wasn't even speeding since it was snowing out, but I had a college sticker which basically meant that I was free game for the cops in town. This is the conversation that ensued...

DSTC=Dumbass Small Town Cop

DSTC: Now the smell of patchouli is pretty strong on you and I think we both now what that's used to cover up, so why don't you just tell me what you have in the car right now? (Now I'm convinced that I'm probably going to be standing on a snow bank in 10degree snowy weather while asshat DSTC searches my car)
Me: Um...it's my hand lotion, sir.
DSTC: Yeah right, I never heard of it. Tell me what you have in the car.
Me: Nothing, it's my hand lotion.
DSTC: Why don't you just make it easy on yourself?
Me: I don't have anything in the car. It's my handlotion.
DSTC: Well, I never heard of anyone turning that smell into a handlotion.
Me: Uh...I work at a health food store. I bought it there. Here smell my hands (stick hands into cops face)
(DSTC then asks me a bunch of questions about where I was coming from, what class, professor etc?)
Finally...
DSTC: Fine then, you just slow down and have a good night.
