| Is a Granite Ware stock pot safe for use for vegetable broth? |
|
I am going to make a vegetable broth this weekend and needed to buy a stock pot for it. I purchased a Granite Wear pot but now wonder about the toxicity of it? I tried for a while to find something online but couldn't find anything, either for or against it. Has anyone heard anything about Granite Ware? I know that glass or cast iron is safest, but I can't afford one of those right now.
Thanks! :hi:
(not sure if this is really Vegetarian-related, but just thought those in this forum might know something about it - thanks again!!)

| 1. Huh. I think I've only ever canned with Granite Ware. |
|
I'm pretty sure that my mom has a Granite Ware roasting pan, so the surface must be safe. It's porcelain on metal, isn't it? (And silly side info--I've had Granite Ware recommended as a 'bird-safe' alternative to other cookware, so I guess it doesn't outgas at higher temps.)
I guess my only issue would be phase 1. I tend to start veg stock with a lazy man's mire poix, and I don't know if you can saute in Granite Ware.
Have fun--don't forget to leave the eggplant out of your veg stock!

| 2. Is that the traditional cobalt blue with white specks ? |
|
If that is the one you mean, it looks safe. But I would watch for nicks. I would still check out more if you can, and let us know.

| 3. This one is black with white specks but I think those are pretty much the same products. |
