| a question of donations - whom would you choose? |
|
Probably just as most of you, sitting on my desk I have solicitations from various groups and I must pick and choose how much and to whom.
I regularly budget and give to the DNC, the DCCC, various campaigns like to JE, to my 2 local PBS stations, to the local animal shelter, to CARE, to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tenn., to the HSUS, and to PETA (a neighbor of mine) regularly. (Almost forgot DU ;) )
But in addition to those above, I want to divide a little sum of $125-$140 (not much) among the following groups who have sent me solicitations for support. Tad bit daunting to decide how much to whom. I could just send them all $15. ea. and get it over with. I haven't given to any of these in almost a year and I wish I could sent each of them $50+, but I cannot.
Y'all must often be faced with the same dilemma. So, what would you do?
Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue (Bakersfield)
Defenders of Wildlife
ASPCA
Green Peace (which I've often donated too, but not lately)
African Wildlife Foundation
The Humane Farming Assoc.
WWF
Alley Cat Rescue, Inc. (Washington DC)
Doris Day's Animal Foundation
The Animal Legal Defense Fund
Suggestions?

it wouldn't be WWF. Pro-hunting orgs won't get a dime from me, ever. Doris Day Animal League is a good one, as is the ALDF.
However, I'd go with Sea Shepherd, since you've already gone with HSUS (my other suggestion).

"For endangered species, trophy hunting should only be considered when all other options have been explored." In their own words. http://www.wwf.org.za/article.php?id=393

In addition to PETA and HSUS, I like to give to Animal Legal Defense Fund and the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine, among others...

How could I have forgotten them??!!! I've collected my envelopes for a couple of months now and found another stack which includes PCRM, which I've donated to before and will again. Their work has great merit in helping helpless lab animals. (I've a personal story about stopping Prof.Anthony Marmarou@ MCV from bashing the skulls of poor monkeys.)

to several animal rights and welfare organizations and to umbrella groups such as Earthshare. I prefer this way because it eliminates the mailings you get when joining directly and the expenditures and waste those entail.
As for lab animals, I would also recommend NAVS. I recommend their dissection model lending library to teachers (I provide state services to blind students) when a student is required to do any dissecting.

monthly donations to SUIPA, a no kill shelter in Rio de Janeiro located under a viaduct in a sad and dark corner of the world. to PCRM when I can and to HS of Louisiana. They welcomed me and another rescuer during Katrina S & R efforts, when I can.
