| Vegans..can you please tell me about soy cheese... |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-26-08 01:48 PM by youthere
I have been a lacto-ovo for awhile, but I'm trying to get all the animal products out of my diet. I finally took the plunge and bought a block of soy cheese (the mexican style) but as silly as it sounds...I'm afraid to actually try it (I know Í'm being stupid). SO I could use any direction, advice or encouragement on how best to utilize this block of soy cheese. Thanks!
(If you think this is bad...wait until it's time for me to give up my beloved Hellman's) P.S. Keep in mind..I grew up in Wisconsin...my blood type is sharp cheddar.

| 1. Did we scare you with our tales of woe in the Lounge? |

Cube it and put it in salads, or slice for crackers or sandwiches. For hot stuff, use it when you don't need melting, like as shreds on tacos or fajitas.
And remember, when dumping the Hellman's, go grapeseed. Grapeseed Vegenaise!
You're doing so well. I'm really proud of you!

The secret shame of vegans....your cheese sucks! I'm surprised that I don't miss meat at all..and it's been over a year. I think I'm ready to take it to the next level and I'm feeling some of the same reservations I did when I gave up meat. I'm sure it won't be nearly as bad as I think it's going to be...but I'm still hoping for a good review from Leftymom on that kind of cheese she's trying today! *fingers crossed*

| 4. Well, it turns out FedEx still hasn't got it to me. |

Looks like the delivery's friday now. I don't know if they rescheduled it (I could have sworn it was today) or if I misread the date, but there goes.
I'll post as soon as I have something to share.

incidentally, I tried a tiny nibble of the stuff I bought on a cracker and it wasn't...well..it didn't make me throw up. It wasn't entirely ghastly. I think I would probably be more likely to go without cheese altogether than make a regular habit of soy cheese though...unless you have some good news for me after your delivery.

It looks like fresh mozzarella in a bag. I think we'll try it tomorrow. I'm definitely curious after seeing it.
