| My Shrub voting animal rights activist friend |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 12:29 PM by SiouxJ
has finally seen the light!! OMG! Something just happened that made my day, and I need to share it with someone who can appreciate it, so posting it here.
I have this neighbor who is a major animal nut like me and we've sorta bonded over that. I've dog-sat for her two dogs and we've both engaged each other in writing letters to stop legislation that would harm animals etc. Well, anyway, she's not particularly involved in politics (except where animals may be involved), but right after the election she revealed that she voted for the idiot and proceeded to try to tell me why he won. Well, I lost it and we almost broke up our friendship over it. Finally we emailed each other and just agreed to stop talking about politics altogether, and concentrate on our common compassion for animals but we haven't really talked much since November.
Anyway, I just now ran into her when I was out walking my dogs and we chit-chatted for a bit and then she shocked the hell out of me by saying, "oh, and by the way,... Bush sucks!" I told her I would resist the temptation to use a familiar phrase (starts with "I" and ends with "told you so."). She didn't have time to elaborate but I'm guessing this has something to do with ANWR and Social Security (she's about 60). Anyway, I have hope that the masses are finally starting to see him for what he is. This was a great way to start out my weekend and the bonus part is, I may have my friend back!

I'm glad you'll still be friends & even more glad she has seen the light!
My mother, who voted for Boosh wrote me a few weeks ago & said she's really upset with him & how he is pandering to the religious right, ignoring the borders & messing with SS. She said she will not go Dem, but will probably fore go voting in the future until there is someone worthy of voting for.
BTW, I LOVE that cartoon!

I have another good anti-fur Bizzaro that I'm going to unveil next week ;-) . I do believe he is a vegetarian. He certainly has a lot of pro-animal cartoons.
Glad your mom is coming around. I'm jealous. Last time I visited my folks we had a big political blow up (in the middle of a packed restaurant). Mostly we have just agreed to not discuss politics anymore. I just can't believe how gullible they have become.

That's excellent news! Kinda makes me wonder what my former repub-but-animal-loving friend Theresa is thinking these days. I really wonder what changed her mind-maybe that awful press conference? I hope there are many more like her out there!

I know lots of people don't want to believe it. I have gotten in arguments with other DUers even been called a liar by one when I have said that PETA and other animal organizations are not necessarily liberal organizations cause I know repukes that belong. I know it doesn't make sense that you can love animals and support repukes but many of these repukes just don't 'connect the dots'. I'm glad that some of them apparently are now.:-)

| 6. I know, it's amazing isn't it? |

I know the people in my town who run a pet rescue organization are mostly repukes. They do the dog adoptions on the weekends at Petco and there's this one car that I see there, which is covered in pro-Shrub stickers that belongs to the woman in charge.
I think the woman I mentioned in the original post is more of an independent but she fell for the pre-election propaganda (that Shrub is the only one who can protect us from evil-doers). He really appeals to paranoid people you know? ;-)
