1. os x comes with a good firewall
ipfw, from bsd.

go to system prefs
sharing
firewall tab
click start to turn it on

3. My first advice is upgrade to 10.3 at least!!!!!
10.2 was really the first DECENT OS X. Memory is not something to worry about either, as the newer updates use it much more efficiently... Tiger comes out in a few months if you want to toss down $100 for that... If not, I will gladly send you my 10.3 install CDs! Just let me know if you would use them!
