| In the past couple of days my mac has been hit with ads for cell phones -- |
|
NEVER had this problem with mac before -- windows yes -- does anyone know how to stop the ads and is there some kind of adware stuff for macs. It must have installed something to my computer -- where would I look to find it and get rid of it? Also how should I be setting my firewall?

pop up blocker on! That's what is so strange.

| 2. Which browser are you using? |
|
If it's Internet Explorer, then switch to Safari or Firefox. You can block popup ads with those browsers.

| 4. I am using Safari with the pop-up blocker on. When I opened safari |
|
just now and came to my DU page, another window trying to sell be adware or spyware bug finders popped up to. I sent a message to Apple -- but do you know of a program I can use to stop these things before they get out of hand like they have on my daughter's wintel machine?

I just checked the forums on Apple's support site and some people have been having trouble with popups since upgrading to OS10.3.8.
I guess I would try clearing out all your cookies, restarting, and then repairing permissions. Keep sending bug reports to Apple via Safari's bug feature (send them the url).
You may want to try Firefox and see if that works better for you. I get a pop-under every once in a while, but it happens so rarely that I don't worry about it.

| 6. LOL! The ONLY pop-up I ever get is at DU's home page...
|
|
Safari, blocker on, etc. Must be cookie related, but it just started happening this week.

I upgraded to 10.3.8 last week and also get the odd popup now.
I was wondering whether someone figured out how to get around the Safari popup blocker, but perhaps it is a problem with the upgrade.

| 8. Don't know if this will work with Panther. |
|
I've gotten a couple of pop up/unders lately (on DU too). Safari was running slow. The other night I had a kernal panic when starting my mac. Since I use Jaguar and Safari, I repaired my permissions and used a cache cleaner. I use MacJanitor. I've heard OnyX is good for Panther. No more pop ups and Safari is running great.

| 10. I run macjanitor too -- but still get pop-ups. |
|
I know how to repair permissions, but how do I erase cookies or clean my cache. (It sounds like a form of money laundering.)
What is onyX?
