| IBook G-4 Logic boards: are they problematic? |
|
I had a G-3 Ibook that, after six or so rebuilds, was replaced with a G-4; all was fine until recently (replaced last August) when it started to crash whenever I played games on the Internet that used shockwave, or when I tried to run my Virtual PC. Then it died altogether and I sent it in for repair. They replaced the hard drive and the modem(?) and sent it back, but I checked it and was still dying with Shockwave and wouldn't run Virtual PC. So back it went, and remains (2 days so far).
I think it is the old logic board deal again. Any chance I might get a new one again????

| 1. I've not heard that G4s have the G3 logic board problem. |

Also, the way you describe your current problem doesn't sound like the (same) logic board problem. Certainly a problem still, but not the G3 problem.
Question: You say that after six or so rebuilds your G3 was replaced with a G4. Was that at Apples expense? I ask because I just put my own G3 in for it's second logic board replacement, and I was wondering if there was another option?
Thanks, and good luck with your current problem.

And then Applecare. So yes, it was "sort of" at Apple's expense. The new one was free.
And the Applecare was transferred over.
The problem is definitely different - because with the G-3 it was lines across my screen and then death.
This is just death.
But to get my new one I had to stomp my feet a little and whine, and get them to agree that yes, every six months was too often and it was a terrible inconvenience.
