| Anyone else waiting for a dual/quad 3.0Ghz Mac? |
|
I'm an addict of all the Mac rumor sites and I'm still running a 500Mhz G4. For last two years I've promised myself I'd upgrade when the newest model was a quantum jump in power.
There are a lot of rumors about a new desktop G5 or G6 Mac coming out in June/July.
So, are there any other "upgraders in waiting"?

| 1. I waited until the dual G5 |
|
I had a 1ghz G4 but I knew that the quantum leap would come with the G5 duals. I haven't been disappointed. Of course, a quad would be outstanding. I've only heard rumors that those are now possible: http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/03/20050311072804.shtml

| 2. still using the 733Mhz G4 here |
|
I don't like to upgrade unless I can REALLY experience a big jump in power. I once upgraded from a IIcx to a 7200. That was awesome! I got my G4 3 years ago and haven't felt a need to upgrade yet. The Zif Processor upgrades are to pricey to justify the moderate boost.

| 3. Zif upgrades are tempting |
|
With a single processor loping along at only 500Mhz, I've been sorely tempted by some of the processor upgrades available. But the price keeps me waiting for that quantum leap in computing power.
I know that the dual G5 kicks ass, so I'm waiting just a bit longer to get the next level. Waiting is kinda fun, but only because I enjoy every new Mac I get!

| 6. Sometimes my IIcx was just too damn fast |
|
I remember when I first got it, opening up "Control Panel" and scrolling looking for monitors or something. . .It scrolled tooooooo fast. I think Apple eventually released a patch to slow the scrolling down.

| 4. I will never buy the first revision of a machine |
|
There always seem to be some little snags and kinks that get worked out in the next revision.
Examples:
First Beige G3s - had a problem to where you couldn't use slave IDE drives.
First Revision Blue and White G3s - rev 1 motherboards had a problem with the IDE controller to where you couldn't use larger IDE drives without data corruption
First Revision G4 AGP machines - had a problem with rev 1 motherboards to where they would not accept a dual processor upgrade.
haven't tracked the first G5's so much. But I would be nervous about buying the first quad processor machine.
OTOH. you can wait your whole life! Just buy a computer and have fun!

| 5. Quad processor - version 1.01 |
|
That's the one to get.
I agree: Let someone else sail off the cutting edge.

| 8. I'm about to grab a dual 2.5. Don't rain on my parade. |
|
*sigh* I know it's my own fault I'm so insecure especially about big purchases. But I'm just drooling over the new displays...

| 9. You might want to wait a couple of weeks. |
|
Tiger (10.4) is rumored to be coming out real soon, like mid April. You can save yourself the cost of an upgrade.
