QUESTION re: antique video/animation software

I am trying to find a program which will do ONE simple thing:
I need to take MANY still images, and stitch them into a continuous video stream....

I'm trying to do some VERY old-school 'stop-motion' animation, where I create frames and then convert them to video.

ALL of the software I have found which offers this ability is part of some high-tech "special effects/video editing' suite, costing hundreds of $$...

I am trying to AVOID 'special effects'; I just need a program to let me assemble some video one frame at a time!

I know it's possible; I was seeing some fine MAC animation 15 years ago!
I just need the program (or maybe the MAC tutorial) that people were using back then.

I have MACs to run anything from OS7 to 10.2.8...
If any of you can help, I will be grateful.

1. iMovie should do that

I usually use Final Cut Pro, so I don't have much experience with iMovie, but I'm sure that it can take still images, trim them down to one frame, and put them in the timeline.

BTW, I believe that most animators shoot their stills for two or three frames rather than one. It all depends on how smooth you want the action to be and how much time you want to put into your project.

Looks like the "iStopmotion" is the way I'm gonna go for this.

I know the latest iMovie is great, but I'd have to upgrade my entire OS to use it.
The iStop has a version that will run on my lil' iMac, and it's certainly in my "unemployed artist" price range.

4. If you are still on os 9, Adobe Premiere 5 had time lapse/stop motion

You could probably pick that up on ebay pretty darn cheap.

for example, I see 6 going for 25.00 w an hour to go
