Photoshop help please!!! Quick!!

I need to add a caption to a jpg, covering over the original text that is there.

So I draw a textbix but I can still see the underlying text. How do I cover it over? Do I make my whole new text box opaque? I have tried and can't figure it out. Please help!

1. You will have to block the original text out somehow

Unless you have a photoshop file with all the layers intact, you will need to cover up or delete the text first. You don't say what the image is, but you can just make a rectangular selection and paint in some color, and then put the text over that. What color you paint in will depend on what the image is and also to contrast with the new type that you will be putting above it.

2. What is the background? If it is a solid color it should be simple.

If it is overlaying the image, you will have to make an opaque box as described in the first post. If it is a solid color, use the eye dropper to select the background color. Now select the eraser and erase the text. Now select the paint bucket and fill in with the selected color if needed.

Make sure the color is changed to the color text you want.

3. If you know how to use layers...

Create a new layer between the background (your original pic) and the text layer.

Select the area around the old text.

Use the paint can to fill the selected area in with the color of your choice.

Merge all your layers to one.

Resave as a different name incase you don't like the results.
