1. It runs really nice on intel macs, not so good on G4's

We installed it at work, and on the intel and G5 macs, users say they like it. All the G4 iMac users say it's way too slow.

I think part of the problem also is that NeoOffice loads up all resources, regardless of whether you're doing word processing, spreadsheets, etc. It's not segregated by functions. MS Word will only load word resources, Excel will only load excel resources, etc. Can't figure out any other reason it would be so much slower.

8. I dont think that will work

If you had a new Intel Mac, you could dual boot into that with BootCamp, but a G5 mac will not run it.

It looks like it is possible to dual boot (switch between Linux and Mac OS X) with it, but it doesn't sound super easy to get the dual booting set up (it will default to Linux after you install it).

Then again, if you're going to use Linux, you should probably get familiar with editing config files anyway.

10. I only used certain apps in Linux, Inkscape, GIMP, and Scribus.

Now I can run them in OSX.

As soon as I get a new Intel Mac I will put Linux on this machine.. There's some things I like about Linux and I'm still attracted to the OS and the philosophy behind it.

11. I ran Ubuntu on my old iMac G4 for a while

Dual-booting between it and Tiger. Worked very well, though admittedly I didn't do a whole lot with Ubuntu (I have a faster PC for Linux work - I installed it on the G4 just to try it out). The most hassle was getting X running satisfactorily.
