Well, thank you! - right before I saw your message, I reset Safari.
That did restore everything. Unfortunately, now it's like I'm reprogramming a brand new comp :((.
But I really appreciate your help - if this ever happens again, I'm gonna follow your advice.:thumbsup:

I played with Linux for a while and it really has enhanced my OSX experience. There's a whole different world of computing inside that terminal in the Utilities folder.
