I finally got around to opening the box. Nice packaging. Took everything out, read the little instruction booklet, and then started fooling with it, seeing how the parts come out.
Simple, pure design. I'm happy.
But, I get to the "thickness cylinder," and I turn the knob to see what the julienne things look like, and when I try to turn it back to the thickness setting, it doesn't go. I take it out, put it back in, and, for the life of me, cannot see how this thing works.

The knob doesn't turn. It did, once - just enough to bring up the two sets of spacers - but now I can't get it to turn back.
Am I doing something wrong, or did I get a dud?
Fortunately, Bloodbath and Beyond has an absolute return policy, so that's no big deal, but this is just dumb.
What am I missing?
On edit: What I was missing - and there's no instruction for this - is pushing IN on the padded knob, which then allows it to be turned.
It works fine.
Ignore me.
Aaaaaaaaaaaargh......................
