Every month a dozen or so (or more) baker-bloggers from around the world work on a themed-based recipe and presentation, then the last week of the month all the pictues and recipes are "rounded up" by a "baking blogger" who "hosted" the event. Past themes have been SHF #40 - Pies that Evoke Your Dreams, by Rachel of Vampituity. Theme: Pies & Tarts, SHF #39 - Baking with Candy, by Dani of Candy Recapper. Theme: Baking with Candy, SHF #38 - The Proof is in the Pudding!, by Zorra of Kochtopf. Theme: Puddings, SHF #36 - Drunken Apples, hosted by Andrew of Spittoon. Theme: Apples with Alcohol, SHF #31 - Tasting the Many Shades of White, hosted by Tara of Seven Spoons. Theme: Desserts in shades of white, SHF #30 - Flower Power, hosted by Monisha of Coconut Chutney. Theme: Desserts using flowers or floral extracts, SHF #23 - Surprise Inside, hosted by Alanna of A Veggie Venture. Theme: Filled/Surprise Ingredient Desserts, among others.

8. This is NYC specific, and for eating, not cooking... but if you're going to be in NYC

He calls himself Famous Fat Dave - he's a NYC cabbie that loves food - without requiring fancy restaurants. He drives a cab and for years now when he'd pick up a local, he'd engage them in conversation and ask them something along the lines of "What restaurant in your area makes some incredible kind of food?". He'd then drop off the fare and go check out the food. On the basis that the locals are the ones who REALLY know who makes the best crabcakes or whatever, he started blogging the recommendations he got (if they were halfway decent) and over time has visited a tremendous number of hole-in-the-wall places that are known for some particular dish - anything from sausages to pizza to crab cakes to Korean food.

He's entreprenurial enough to have turned this into a small business - taking people on eating tours of the boroughs. Frankly, I'd like to go on one myself. He's also boosted up his website, so you can search by area (best places to eat in Queens, say) or by food type (e.g.: Caribbean) and it need not even be a restaurant - it could be a street vendor he found.

There are a lot of interesting stories there, and I doubt I'd go to New York again without looking here and picking out a few places in advance.

11. I love all things that are food related.

Describing food or hearing food stories...those are great too!

Before we go on vacation, we always research restaurants. We use blogs, Trip Advisor and anything else we can lay hands and eyes on!

How else would I know to have a debris samwich at Mother's in New Orleans (and everyone was right! ...delish...we are going back AGAIN in October)

12. I've just discovered 'Manjula's' food blog

she has her own website & blog, and also has a lot of videos on YouTube. She shows you how to prepare authentic Indian recipes. She is a vegetarian, so her dishes do not include my favorites such as tandoori chicken or chicken tikka masala, BUT there are so many other dishes that look SO delicious, that they more than make up for it!

Her videos are very thorough, including recipes, and after watching them, you really feel as if you could prepare these dishes yourself, and enjoy them!
