Our local Strawberry Festival is in two weeks, and the Lions Club that runs it took care of last year's scandal of the Strawberry Queen contest being a beauty contest among Lions Club daughters by hiring outside judges, one of whom is blind.
But, I digress... This year we had little rain and lots of sun, bringing out the berries earlier. The late season berries, usually sweeter and more tasty, are out with the early season ones.
And are they ever good! Gotta buy at least two quarts each time, because I'll eat one while preparing the other for whatever I planned.
Every farm stand out here has 'em, and I can still smell strawberry on my fingers from the ones I froze last night. I see a future of many banana-strawberry smoothies.
(You gotta freeze or cook the ripe ones if you don't eat them RIGHT NOW.)

| 2. Well, why not roast 'em? I'll try that with a few and see how it works, but... |

it's hot out, I have some frozen bananas (would the roasting thing work on bananas, too) and smoothies seem like just the thing.
Lots of smoothies.
