1. Most of them looked good.
I think I'd pass on the sardines, thank you. Not sure about the first one, bacon with plums. Could be good, could be bad. Have to contemplate that one a while.

9. Amended with pic.
Signed up at nytimes.com and now can post the pic. I'd prefer salmon, but sardines sound really good to me also!

2. That was fun!
There are so many delicious combos....

Now I can wax poetic about Bologna and cheese with butter or Salami and Provolone on a fresh NJ Kaiser Roll. I have fond memories of the Italian subs with oil and vinegar from Dels up on the Ave. I recall those lunches of grilled cheese and Campbell Tomato soup (made with milk of course) eaten at the kitchen table with mom. I love all the new ban mi's and pulled pork variations...

But hands down best sammy in the world is still....

Fresh homegrown tomatoes warm off the vine with Hellmans mayo on fresh Wonder Bread.

3. Thanks for that!
Just made a variation, as no fresh homegrown = Campari, + almost fresh cracked wheat sourdough.

8. Fresh tomato soup.
I happened upon a really good fresh tomato soup that turned out VERY tasty. (I bet canned tomatoes would work just fine, I think.)

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/garden-fresh-tomato-soup/detail.aspx

My notations/changes:

Drop tomatoes in boiling water and then ice cold water to skin them. Then proceed.
No Roux needed.

A few changes, of course, just as others do in reviewing allrecipes recipes.

Cloves of GARLIC (NOT SPICE CLOVES --- that was a typo in the recipe, I am sure.) (I used garlic from a jar.)

S&P
1 Bay Leaf
Pinch Dried Oregano
Pinch Cayenne Pepper
A few Leaves Fresh Basil

Simmer 30 minutes or so.

No food mill needed. Just use an (immersion or regular) blender at the end (remove bay leaf first.)

Kiss Cambell's goodbye :hi:

10. I do one in my Vita Mix that is to die for
Fresh off the vine tomatoes.
salt and pepper
Fresh thyme leaves
Raw Cashews (For 4 large tomatoes I add about a small handful of nuts)

I process on high until hot and steamy. At the end I add chiffonades of basil.

Wonderful served over toasted baguette.

6. I love those slideshows!
I tried a Banh Mi recently for the first time after seeing it on a slideshow. It was soooo good.
