Just found a great deal on a new Nesco oven

I was on the Nesco site because I need to order a new well for my 6 quart roaster after my husband ruined the non stick finish on it last night. I happened to notice they had a great deal on the Big one in Red for $59.99. That's the 18 quart one that you can do a Turkey in.

I love my Nescos and even though I don't use the Big one much any more it does come in handy at holiday time when you want to cook an extra pie or side dish and don't have room in the oven. They also come in handy when it's hot out and you want to roast a chicken or bake something. I just used mine outside and avoided heating up the house.

2. My mother swore by hers

and she swore at nearly everything else in the kitchen, she hated cooking. However, once she and my dad moved south, that Nesco was used every single Sunday except December-February for a big hunk of whatever animal was on the Sunday dinner menu that week.

If you eat meat and live in a hot climate, they're wonderful.

In the summer here, I generally use either the toaster oven or my solar cooker. Both keep the place a hell of a lot cooler than the big gas oven does.

5. Bill is a big meat eater, me less and less as time passes. I can see cooking

a roast or chicken ahead in one of these and then letting him munch for several meals. I usually oven roast or crock pot now. Definitely something to consider adding to the kitchen.

3. Who knows what he did to it

I made a pork shoulder for pulled pork sammies and I noticed the non stick was too chipped to feel safe using it. He probably took a fork to it. :wow:

The Nescos are great though. I love to cook pies in mine during the holiday. And they are great for making large quanitites of soup or sauce.

My little six quart doubles as my slow cooker which I like. I can start my meat on high and get it going then turn it down to slow cook and leave it all day. It makes the best tomato sauce and sunday gravy...and don't get me started with soups.

Years ago they had a convection oven top that you could purchase for the large roaster...but when I was on the site it looked like they weren't making them any more. I would have seriously considered getting one.

6. Men. Bill has done something similar to the non stick skillet that came with our induction

cooktop. I won't eat anything from it now at all, but he won't throw it out. :) I'm definitely adding this to the "things to get for the kitchen list". It seems really useful.

4. Does the outside get hot?

I've never seen one of these before. What are the dimensions?

I finally got a replacement wall oven and hopefully it will be changed out this week. It will be nice to bake again.

7. I love my 6 quart Nesco

In fact, I have two of them now. One I use with the insert for making 3 small side dishes.

The first thing I noticed about the Nesco is how fast they cook a chicken.

8. I loved mine. Easier on the back and less likely to cause burns. Nice price there.

9. I have two of them

Mine are GE and not Nesco, but basically the same thing. One was given to me by my MIL who no longer uses it. I'll probably give that one away to Goodwill before the year is up.

The first one I use for sous vide, and it works great for that. I used to use it for other things, but not since I got my Breville Smart Oven (which is awesome).
