| When to start kids sharing rooms? |
|
My son is almost 27 months...his little brother will arrive sometime in March :-)
It's my wife's and I's intention to have them share a room. What's a good age to start doing this? This'll mean we can hold onto our 2-bed apartment (where we don't pay heat!!) a little longer, which would be nice.

| 1. I intended to put mine together |

but then my son was such a bad sleeper, he ended up in a crib in my office at night.
We were lucky to have the extra room that could be pushed into service. He was in with us for a while, but he thrashed around so much, even when he was asleep, that it was disruptive to our sleep. He was up so much at night that it would have been disruptive to our daughter's sleep to have them together.
I guess that wasn't much help. More cautionary tale about the best laid plans......
I would guess that it would be best to wait until the baby is sleeping through before you put them together. Otherwise you could end up with two awake at 2 AM, never a happy scenario. But when the baby starts to really sleep, he should be down before your older child and then they both sleep through 'till morning. :)

Our son didn't sleep through the night until 21 months! The baby will sleep in a bassinet in our room for a while. We just can't really afford to move until fall so we're going to have to make do with 2 beds somehow until then.

| 3. If it gets really bad, you could always camp out |
|
in the living room, put the baby down in your room. But since your first one was a bad sleeper, you are due for a good one. Hopefully you won't have to go to those lengths.

| 4. I'm dealing with the same thing. |

My oldest is 3 and my twins are 18 months. We need them to share a room also, but he is on a different sleep schedule than the twins. They sleep longer than he does! No way do I want him to wake them up at 6am. Right now he is still in our room. We just want them to all be in one room. Plus if we put his bed in their room he climbs into one of their cribs because he thinks it is great fun to jump in there with them
