Extremely annoying monitor problem

You know those little buttons on your monitor that you press when you want to change the size, contrast, position, etc. of the image on your screen? Well the menu is popping up intermittently without me even pushing the button! I'm sitting here reading DU or whatever and that stupid menu pops up several times a minute and gets in the way of whatever I'm reading. Have you ever heard of anything so annoying?

Does anybody have any idea how I can get rid of this annoyance? The monitor is about 3 or 4 years old and the picture still looks good so it seems like it should have some more mileage left on it.
