| What is up with this update!! |
|
I can't even count how many times this has been installed! Are they all the same or is there something added to it? Should uninstall all except 1. And last but, not least how do I make it STOP
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)
Installation date: 5/19/2009 3:00 AM and not knowing it's the same update whenever the update box pops up I update - it states 'Important' So I install. There must be close to 50 or more of this KB954430 installed :-O
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important
A security issue has been identified in Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.
I can't call support because I'm hearing impaired but, even if I wasn't - I'm a total computer dunce!

| 1. Seems to be a real common problem |

http://www.google.com/search?num=20&q=KB954430The consensus solution in the links above is to download the standalone installer ( choose your OS from this page), run it and select "uninstall" from the options. Then let Update reinstall it.

I went through this before with another update but, my son was here and he fixed it. Now he's back in Joisey. I knew I could count on someone on DU to help me out. Thanks.

Hope it works for you. I can only pass along what others are saying since I've never had the problem, but the ones doing the uninstall/reinstall are reporting success, I didn't see a single failure or complaint.

May do that, too. Now I know why everyone hates Microsoft. It can be a real pain in the ass.
