I updated to the newest Firefox which is 3.5.2 and it's a mess. I almost never got a web page to load on the first try. It was slow, slow, slow. Lots of error messages, etc.
I went back to an earlier version but was wondering if anyone else had this problem with the newest version.

| 1. Might've been an extension |

Unlikely, but you never know. I had a severe regression that I hadn't seen in ages in 3.5.1, with Flash movies stuttering (Flash itself has become a whole 'nuther bag of worms which I won't go off on here). After about a half hour or so, playback was so bad it was more like a slideshow than a movie. The culprit turned out to be an extension, the Nightly Tester Tools, of all things.
A quick way to check is to create another profile -- shut down FF, open a command window --> firefox -profilemanager. If it behaves while running naked, an extension is the problem. Alternately, you can disable them all, close, and restart.
I've had no troubles with 3.5.2, aside from the NTT extension, BTW.

| 2. So you are running 3.5.2 with no problems? |
|
And if you are what is the advantage of 3.5.2?

on Ubuntu and Vista.
Advantages of 3.5.2 is that, like 3.5.1, it addresses security issues in the 3.5 release. 3.5 on a whole has been an improvement, especially when loading images from a web page. They seem to load faster, in parallel.

| 4. I guess I'll try it again. I've disabled almost all the addons. |
|
I'm not sure which one was the culprit.
Thanks.

| 5. Create a second profile for testing |
|
as charlie suggested. The new profile won't have any of your add-ons, extensions, settings, cookies, passwords... If the problem goes away then you know it's something in your profile.

Those were "helpfully" planted when you installed .NET and Java, by Microsoft and Sun, natch. You'll probably notice they can't be uninstalled either, not without uninstalling the mothership software.

I have them disabled so I guess they won't hurt anything.
So far things are still working fine. I'll cross my fingers that the problems are over because 3.5 is definitely faster than the older version 3.0.12

Every time I've tried firefox I have in a very short time wished I hadn't even tried. Good luck with your problem there.

As for I.E., it's so slow that I want to scream when I try to use it. Gave up on I.E. a long time ago.
