Windows Vista Update May Cause Crashes
If you are running Windows Vista on a dual core processor system watch out for this issue. I have a Dell Studio 15 laptop and recently I started getting crashes every time I closed the lid on the machine. Then I started getting blue screen crashes randomly and when I unplugged my wireless mouse receiver. I spent hours on Dell Chat and on the phone and they had not a clue.

I had Windows send the error report and got a message back to check out this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB973879

You have to uninstall this update in two places. After I did this the problem went away.

3. And that's one of the reasons viruses spread so well on Windows computers

4. Nope it isn't
99% of their patches go to fix the gaping holes in Internet Exploder and Outhouse. And after all that those two programs are still highly vulnerable. Out of hundreds of patches, I've installed maybe 4 or 5 when necessary for some app I was running. I refuse to use either of those two.
99% of the computers I've had to clean and disinfect had all of the updates and were still infected.
I've had ONE virus in the last 8 years and that was because I trusted someone who brought over a disk.
I spend a fair amount of time on various risky sites but I keep my security fairly tight.

6. I once got hit with the Chernobyl Virus
It was nasty. I had to re-install Windows on one and install a new BIOS chip on another. This was in the old Pentium - Windows 95 days. On one computer it even trashed the BIOS. I got a new BIOS chip from the MoBo manufacturer. I taught me a hard lesson: always run AV protection and turn on boot sector protection in BIOS.

7. I hear ya!
"Then I started getting blue screen crashes randomly and when I unplugged my wireless mouse receive"

We bought a HP Laptop Dec '08, came with Vista, didn't take me long to put XP on it! But it does freeze when the network cable comes out, and sometimes it wants to self reboot.

It's a real pisser when I find something on the internet and want to show it to someone in a nother room and get problems! Didn't I say this was a laptop?

Too bad about the built in wireless, doesn't work in XP or Vista.

Of course this thing was "Made for Vista"
