2. tried it
It hangs up. (malwarebytes)

I'm working on a relative's computer and it has this horrible thing.

Please, everybody, get McAfee Site Adviser. I know it personally helped me on my own system to avoid this Green thing. It is horrible and a bear to remove.

Cher

4. I've installed Malwarebytes on over 50 computers
Never had a problem and it cleaned out the infections on all of the infected ones.

5. Never experienced that ...

Malwarebytes is a slick little program.

On the other hand, I've had some horrible experiences with "Site Adviser" at work.

FF with some good extensions like AdAware and NoScript will stop a lot of this crap from websites.

3. Best Answer on Yahoo answers
Try this first:
Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and open the task manager.
Stop all processes with a bunch of numbers in them.
Go to Start>Computer>C: drive>Program Files>Temp files, and delete them all.
Empty the recycle bin.
Then go to Start>Run>type %temp% and delete all of those.
Empty the recycle bin again.
Then restart the computer, tap the F8 key while it is booting up, then choose "Safe mode with networking".
Download Malwarebytes from here:
http://malwarebytes.org/
When it asks you where you would like to save it, change the "mbam_setup.exe" file to xxxxx.exe.
Then install it, update it, and run a full scan. Get the free version.

Now download SpyBot Search and Destroy from here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.h…
Update, Immunize, then scan & Fix.

I'm SURE this will all fix it and prevent further infection of your system.

Evidently the virus is alerted by the name Malwarebytes. Therefore renaming it is key.

7. I swear by these folks.

Just read the stickies, post the HijackThis log, and let them help. It's completely free and they know their stuff.

8. just wanted to post back
I found out the computer had a trojan (Wimad-L). It is now running just fine. I used Webroot to find the trojan. I used all the other strategies found in Why's post upthread.

I thought it had the Green because I saw a logo for something similar, but I was wrong.

Now this computer is armed for bear, what with spyware, malware and anti-virus. In addition, scans from Norton. (I'm not running competing virus programs. The scan from Norton is free.) Everything is in one folder on the desktop and all that has to be done is to scan on a regular basis.

Thanks to everybody for their links, etc. I bookmarked 'em all.

Cher
