Need a webhost
A friend of mine who has a website for a quilt retreat is having major problems with her webhost. I told her I'd ask here to see if anyone knows of a host that would be reliable and has tech support available if needed without having to wait days and days to get a response.

Also, if you know of any that are particularly bad, please post it here so we know who to avoid.

Thanks for the help.

1. I use bluehost ...

I've rarely had to initiate a tech support request, but the couple times I have, I got same-day response.

bluehost.com

6. Been looking into it.
I have it narrowed down to JustHost and BlueHost. JustHost is a little over 3 dollars a month and BlueHost is just a little over 6 dollars a month. JustHost does not seems to be as powerful a webhost. But, since I'm really not trained in perl etc, I wonder if BlueHost's depth won't just be lost on me. Both hosts have drag and drop functions and access to simplified web builders. Both hosts have high customer satisfaction ratings.
The website I'm planning will be news oriented with articles, interviews, press releases, photos and audio. There will be daily updates and of course access to older articles and a talkback/forum function. I do hope to sell ads at some point. Any, thoughts on this? I would appreciate any input. Thanks....

7. Brief thought ...

You don't necessarily need to be a perl developer to find use for it. Many scripts and other applications that you might find useful require perl be present to run. You might be surprised what you'll find useful as a site grows.

I don't know anything about JustHost, so I'm not sure if this is even relevant. I'm just inferring from your comments that perl wouldn't be available at all there.

8. thanks for your reply
I was just looking at the box that lists what they have to offer and BlueHosts box is like three times larger. With a whole slew of features that I don't understand. I'm probobly leaning towards Blue for the same reasons that you mention. You never know what you will require in the future. And 6.99 a month is not a overly large amount of money. I would easily be able to afford to pay the yearly rate and have a webhost that my website could grow into.

9. Look around ...

You might try googling for some sort of discount. I found one for bluehost myself that way. It knocked down my first two years to $4.95/mo.

Ah, here's one:

Just so you know, I'm not an employee of bluehost and have no financial incentive in recommending them. They've just been good to me.

I don't use most of the features either, but I have found some nice to have. Check out their simple scripts section for some apps you can install for free to use with your website, e.g. WordPress, phpBB (a message board), etc.

10. I do hosting
I'm a web developer specializing in e-commerce, and host the sites we create (plus some general hosting accounts that we don't necessarily work on). All our work is on the Windows platform. We offer full access to mail, stats, and strong technical support.

I PMed my contact info to you.

11. I'm looking for one also.
While googling, I found that google now offers simple websites. They call it "Google Sites". You have to use their program to build it - you can't upload from Front Page, etc
