how to STOP execution of a program...

in hope of stopping the automatic execution of a program i have come here begging. i would like to stop a program from running on my local pc. i don't want it to ever run. it is currently being launched as part of a login script in a corporate environment. I am just looking for something that will prevent execution of bginfo.exe...

any ideas?

1. "corporate environment" could be a problem

If it is a login script you could be in big trouble if you try to remove it and most likely the computer techs have not given you permission to make those kinds of changes.

Ordinarily, to stop a startup program, just type in the "run" command: msconfig, click on 'startup' and remove the program from the list of programs that start when Windows starts, then reboot. However, as I said, that feature has probably been disabled on your computer.

2. i have the power so that is good...

but the problem is that the executable is on a server and is being called during the login script. no way to remove the program. it is not a huge deal...just annoying. i was hoping there was an executable watcher that I could download to stop that little annoyance from running...

3. Is it changing the desktop background on your PC?

If so, it's probably a tool used by the IT department to give them a quick overview of your workstation's hardware, software, operating status, etc. They would probably be most displeased if you were to remove it.

4. it is indeed...

the biggest problem is that it is cluttering areas of the screen that I would otherwise use. The information they are including is nothing more than the IP address of my adapters and some extremely basic info that could not be used for troubleshooting or anything. I am not terribly concerned about what IT wants in this situation as this is making it more difficult for me to do my job (I present technical presentations and have to manually change the background in order to have what i need visible on my desktop).

i have administrative access to my machine and i COULD stop it for everyone in the company but there are some people who obviously feel it is a benefit. i just want to stop it for my machine...something that will prevent BGInfo from executing from the login script.

5. Can you end the process in Task Manager?

It's still a step, but less than manually changing the background.

6. it is not an ongoing process

when my login script runs, BGInfo runs as an executable called from the script. It sets my wallpaper and then is done. I can change my wallpaper back to what I want (which is nothing...just a black background) but when I log in again the script executes and the dern thing is back. The executable and the file it is loading as my background do NOT exist on my computer but on a network share so I cannot just rename them or delete them.

it is not a big deal...just hoped there was an answer...

7. I don't know exactly how to do it

but you could write your own script that executes after the network login script and changes the wallpaper back to your default.

8. i have finally done exactly that

after deciding that stopping it was not really something i could figure out how to do without beating myself in the head, I decided to write a little script that executes as part of my local setup...so first the annoying stuff is on the screen, then changed after teh fact...

oh well, ya do whatcha gotta do!
