Windows 7 compatability guide.

Here's download from MicroSoft that will check to see if your machine is ready as is for Win 7.

2. The last thing I want to download from M$
Edited on Thu Oct-22-09 06:12 PM by hobbit709
is something that ostensibly checks my system and does who knows what else it doesn't tell me about. Just like Windows Genuine Advantage.
I just look at what they say are the minimum system requirements and double them if you want it to run smoothly.

Hell, I once saw a laptop with a 233MHz Pentium II and 64Mb RAM that had XP on it. It actually worked-took it about 7 minutes to boot to the desktop and the hard drive was working overtime swap filing.

4. But I deal with people who have Windoze
That's how I make a quasi-living. My personal computers are more than capable of handling 7 but I'll probably only put it on one of them-the slowest is the laptop with a 2GHz X2 Athlon, my fastest is a 2.4 GHZ Phenom OC'd to 3.1 GHz. I'm running XP, XP X64 on two, Ubuntu 9.04, Linux Mint 7 and Mandriva 2009 on my systems.

5. What a joke! My laptop's HP Quick Launch Buttons are NOT compatible
This laptop came out end of last year and made for Windows Vista!

HP Quick Launch Buttons Hewlett-Packard_Not compatible
The driver installed for this device is not compatible with Windows 7.

It didn't take me long to put Windows XP on it

6. One thing worth checking is HP website.
The Compatibility Wizard is based on info provided by OEM (HP in this case).
Sometimes the info they provide Microsoft is wrong and/or out of date.

Checking HP website might yield the elusive Win7 drivers for the quick launch button.
Then again HP may never make drivers available.
