I also love them, and couldn't live without them. I just don't love them enough to learn much more that I have to.
So I had 2 laptops crash as well as my external hard drive backup crash almost simultaneously. I say almost, because I did manage to retrieve all photographs.
All the music, some 4,000 songs, is gone. I haven't gone looking for music for a while and I'm sure my memories dim.
So, what's the current best/safest/most popular was (other than buying from iTunes) to rebuild my library?
I'm running Vista/Firefox/(mostly)iTunes.
Any advice much appreciated.

| 1. I use Bearshare. Download the tune. Set Sound Forge to "Record what you hear" |
|
Start Playing the tune...record it as a 24 bit wave file then change the file format to whatever I want.

maybe take the drive that had the music on it and see if you can retrieve them, lots of times it can be done. Go here maybe and ask some question on how to do that: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=242

I tried that on all 3 drives, 2 laptops & 1 external. Sadly, no go.

| 5. This software may help recover HD files. I've had very good luck with it. |
|
You can download a trial version to see if files are on HD before you purchase about $79. Also link for usb to IDE eadapter to read HD. Software Link: < http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/> Adapter Link: < http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119244>

I don't use it, but "legal" and "free" is what I would be looking for. http://www.ez-tracks.com/
