Lost audio. Can anyone help?

I'm nearly helpless when my computer messes up! I have WindowsXP and this morning I was trying to watch an online TV show at abc.com. A box popped up saying I needed some kind of upgrade to continue so I clicked OK. I didn't pay attention to what the media program was. So now I've lost all audio. I do know how to do System Restore if that's what it takes. Any advice would be appreciated.

1. Several possibilities. One go to your make and model support site and see what

audio drivers are available. Two go to device manager and update drivers and let windows go online and find drivers.

I'm not sure if system restore will fix your problem but it would not hurt. But... before you do any changing run malwareBytes scan or similar anti malware software and be sure you have a virus free system.

Do you have a backup plan and are you able to restore your system if you have to.

3. It worked! I did run a scan and had a virus. Saturday night my

13-yr-old grandson spent the night and while on my computer he got onto a nasty porno site. (He's autistic, so he's forgiven!). Anyway I fought with this site quite awhile Sunday. It kept taking over my computer and alternating with a site promoting viagra. Viruses I had aplenty. I tried killing them with Malware, etc. but to no avail and finally did a system restore which got rid of the sites. I guess there was a virus still lurking. I don't know how it all works, but I do know thanks to your help I can once more go to Youtube and hear Bon Jovi sing "Always!"

2. I would first go to

the Audio properties > Start > Control Panel > Sound/Audio/Speech > Audio and make sure there is no check in "mute" and that the volume is turned up, etc. AFAIK, ABC uses a dedicated player on their site. It's always a good idea to note what is asking to be installed before clicking "ok". For future reference.

8. Hi -- I still have Symantec running, tho I've gotten a refund on it ---

annoying as hell with constant updates --

I have windows -- if I use the new microsoft system can I get rid of Symantec/Norton?

I was going to try Avast -- but not if they're going to be annoying me with notices to move

on to a paying system!!!

9. Yes. You only need one anti-virus program.

Tip: Use Revo Uninstaller (Advanced option) to uninstall Norton.

You mention an "Uninstaller" . . . .

There is an area to "Remove" programs . . . tho there no confirmation when it is removed/??

So am wondering why you need the Revo Uninstaller -- but will certainly use it!
