Here are some things to do.

Go to Start>Run> type MSCONFIG and hit enter>go to Startup tab and uncheck everything (disable All).

Restart computer.

Erase Norton (if trial version is installed):

Scan computer and remove viruses/trojans/etc...

1. Caution: You should only have 1 antivirus on your computer and not everything should be disabled

with msconfig.

Sweeping general fixes, fix nothing and usually cause more problems and may turn computers into a brick.

I assume you are well intentioned but I think you should ask the mods to pull your OP.

2. I haven't experienced any...

...problems unchecking all at startup. This frees up the computer to run much faster.

Notice that this is done prior to installing an anti-virus program.
After installing one below, they will automatically run at startup.

Microsoft Security Essentials is fine.
Avast is good and also AVG.

Yes, it is good to run just one anti-virus program.

3. Simple answer

your start up is entirely different from mine and the other couple hundred million users. No problems ffor you but you could really mess up someones day with those instructions.

6. Dell and HP keyboard that have special keys would be problem also dialup modems may require

accelerators and special login for isp's, acer laptops have bios and recovery functions that start at bootup. Each manufacture will be different and many are just overhead but many provide required functionality like starting most antivirus programs at startup.

10. It's system-specific.

There are guides out there for tweaking your startup using msconfig, but again, in the end, it's system-specific. Most guides will tell you what you absolutely need to allow to run at startup, but it depends entirely on what you have installed that runs when you boot.

As for Vi$ta Home: dump it and upgrade to 7. 7 is much, much, much better, faster, more reliable, and more capable. It's also less annoying. It's what Vi$ta should have been- and wasn't.
