I have an ads malware problem on my Mac.

Google analytics, DoubleClick, Pubads, etc. I get hung up all the time with these things. Are they viruses or trojan horses? I'm totally baffled.
It seems to be centered particularly around Google activity, searching, etc.

www.ghostery.com I don't know if it works for Macs, but you can block the ads with it. You have the option to block or now block. I have blocked quite a few adbots with it, and it works.

Not strictly speaking anyway. These are domains associated with advertising used on countless websites, including DU.

They're getting "hung" because the servers get bogged down sometimes. Doubleclick seems particularly bad about it.

You can block them with a javascript blocker, or you can set up a HOSTS file to redirect calls to those domains to your local machine.

You can add you own URL's also. I'd tell you how to get the URL for ads you don't want, but I seldom see any ads. I copy and past them whenever I update HOST file.
The instructions for adding URL's are in the file at the top.
Pages load faster - usually. Sometimes their is a java scrip that tries to load stuff, but can't because the HOST file says no. That can take a bit to resolve itself as it keeps trying till it times out.

I've got a thumb drive with my custom Hosts file on it. Before I ever connect to the internet, I edit mine.

You really can't just copy it because Linux has a line in it with the computers name.
