| Anyone here have an HP Deskjet PSC F4180? |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 12:49 PM by Paper Roses
I bought this PSC 2 years ago during a huge sale at Target. Since my old HP PSC 1210 seemed to be doing fine, I have never installed the new one.
For several months I have been unable to use the scan function on the 1210. I believe this happened when I updated to Windows 7. HP help says that there are problems with the scan and other functions with my 1210. It gives long, drawn out fixes.
My question. If I remove the old printer and install the F4180, will it work with windows 7 or will I not have the proper drivers for that too W/7?
I was hoping to use Driver Detective but the scan showed I had 85 out of date drivers. Geeze, I hardly use this machine, I cannot imaging I need to update all that.
Would the F4180 work all functions including scan? I'd appreciate it if anyone knows.
PR
On Edit, I just went back to the HP site and there are problems with this F4180 too. I am of a mind to just go out and but a new PSC that will work for Windows 7 and forget all this jury rigging. This has never been out of the box. Phooey

They are probably all newer than mine. What do you use, or are you pulling my leg?

| 3. Evidently HP printers and 7 do not play well together |
|
It evidently is HP that doesn't have properly updated drivers for 7. I just had that problem with a Laserjet 1018. I finally gave up and put the HP on the XP X64 computer and put the Samsung printer on the 7 computer. I also upgraded a friend's computer over the weekend and had similar problems. I followed HP's advice and told Windows it was a different printer and to use LPT1 as the port for the install. After installing, change the printer port to USB and it prints just fine.
I have two Epson printers( regular photo/scanner and a wide-format), 3 Samsung(1 laser, 1 color laser and 1 thermal photo) and all of them worked just fine on 7. HP has a problem.

There may be something similar happening with HP and Windows 7: How to Scan in Windows 7 without Using HP Software http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01884960&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3795406
