| Help With Adobe Perfessional |
|
I had a long standing problem with Adobe Reader. I could read but nothing else. I could not type on the document I was reading. So, some time ago, 5 years? I got at fair expense, Adobe Pro fessional. And I have never figured out how to type on a document I am reading. Any ideas? It did not come with a book or anything. There ought to be a type command in the tool bar, but there isn't. dc

| 1. There's something called the Typewriter tool |
|
But be warned - it doesn't let you edit the text already on the page, only add text to the page. Adobe Acrobat is a not text editor or word processing application. It's more of a document management tool.

| 2. I had to download typewriter tool, and I'm trying to work with it. |

What they say about it, is that it will only allow you to do anything with a document if the document is interactive? was set up as ... interactive? I don't want to edit the documents. Only add text, or fill in blanks or add text on a line (blank line). Such as a date, on the date line. But I can't seem to do even that. I've had Acrobat for years and found it to be useless. For my purposes anyway. I don't want to manage the documents I want to type on them, or fill in the blanks. I see they still say ... print out the document and type on it with a typewriter. ??? Why would I buy a computer to do that??? But they have said that for years. Idiocy as far as I am concerned. Many people tell me ... A Typewriter??? No one has one of those anymore. Reminds me of the exterminator who has all the cockroaches marching around, like little soldiers. And the housewife says are you going to exterminate them or not. No says the 'professional', we don't kill them, just control them. (Pest Control R Us, that company). dc

| 3. I don't know what version of Acrobat you use, but mine came with the typewriter tool |
|
To use it, I click the Tools->Typewriter menu. Then, I can select an area and type text into it. That area can be anywhere on the document, including in white space, over the top of text or images, or the footer/header.
When I say document management, I mean that it allows you to redact, annotate, or markup PDF document(s) as a management tool. For example, the office I work in is a legal office. The legal secretaries markup the PDF document for redaction (ie, marking SSN's, DOB's, etc.), and send it to the attorney through email. Once the attorney approves it, he/she adds initials to the footer and sends it back to the legal secretary who finalizes the redactions, making them permanent. We also use Acrobat for numbering discoverable documents - Acrobat allows us to use a single numbering sequence with its Bates Numbering tool, and apply that numbering sequence to multiple documents. This has saved literally hundreds of hours that used to be spent running the documents through a Bates Stamp machine.
I'm not sure who's recommending that you print out the document and type on it using an old-fashioned typewriter, but I think they're pulling your leg.

That is my desire for Acrobat, what you are doing is what I wanted it to do for me. I just never learned how. My version is 7.0, and Typewrite Tool comes with 7.0.5, I guess. But I did get the download. But I'm still having trouble running it. I'll go back after it again soon. California requires many cases to be on official forms from the California Judicial Council. They have a website with the forms, and today an interactive form, which you can fill out, but not save a copy of, or ... print out the form and type on it. California Continuing Education of the Bar used to have a similar program for sale for a hefty price, and that was their recommendation, print it out and type on it. But I also saw it on the web just recently. Now, I could print them out, then scan them, well, I haven't tried that with the new Lexmark All In One printer. It has a super plug & play scanner program. But mostly I'm using that for email. dc
