question about Microsoft Office 2010 Pro

I've currently got Office 03 on my laptop, and I'm very happy with it. Haele can get 010 Pro through work, and needs to upgrade to it, and would like to put it on my laptop, as her netbook is a bit small for some of the spreadsheets she does.

Two questions: How big a change is it from 03 to 010? And can I run both?

For instance, let's say I give her her own sign in on the laptop, could she be running 010 on that sign in, while I run 03 on my sign in?

Or should I just cave and upgrade?

try to have two versions of MS Office on the same machine. Impending disaster :)

2. 2010 is flashier, but not much practical difference imo

IMO the only real practical differences for an average user between 2003 and 2007 or 2010 is the use of "ribbons" in the later versions for navigation. Though the ribbons take some time to get used to they do make navigation easier once you get the hang of them. I don't think there are too many things you can do in 2010 that you can't do in 2003 (or 2007). In my every day office use of 2010 I can't think of anything that would make me say, "Wow, I couldn't do this before". Maybe for some users there are features in the new version that make life a lot easier, but for me, my main use is Word, occasionally Excel and Outlook. I do like the improvements in Outlook but again, they are not things that are really going to affect how you use your computer imo.

5. all I ever use it for is Excel

what I really want is the ability to pre-set the formatting for comments on each page of a spreadsheet. I don't suppose 2010 does that, does it?

Either way, it's a free upgrade, so I guess I'll go for it.

I don't know if you want to go to this much trouble..depending on your expertise.


Partition your drive, install O.S. in new partition...install your new office in new partition.

That way...you can use Office 2003 & use/Learn 2010 on the same computer.

But.. Again, You may not want to go to that much trouble. :)
