Looking for a program to produce maps.

I want to create sites on the map by entering longitude and latitude, pretty much like you can do in Google Maps. But I want to do it in a program on my PC to create a database of sites.

Enlighten me, o wise geeks.

1. Check DeLorme

They have a complete USA Street Atlas graphical database. You can extract individual maps from that.
