Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 beta on my laptop

2. Haven't had any issues yet.

Doesn't seem to be much different than 10.04. Later on when I get more time I'll add more packages and tweak some settings to see if that makes any difference.

3. Could you test Rosegarden and see if you can get sound output working?

I've been wanting to use Rosegarden for years as a FOSS alternative to Finale, but MIDI out via ALSA or whatever the other driver is never seems to work (across multiple machines). Ever.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong on my end, but I've never been able to get Rosegarden to play a single note and I want to write music in linux, dammit!
