| My mouse freezes intermittenly on my laptop. I had the problem before |
|
so I just used a different mouse. It worked for 6 months or so and now I have the same problem. (Unfortunately, I don't have access to a different mouse at the moment.) I'm running Vista with a Logitech optical mouse MBT96a. So far I have run AVG antivirus, Spybot, Anti-Malware and registry fixes. Nothing seems to work. Thanks for any help.

| 1. have you cleaned the mouse? |
|
Sometimes the mouse ball gets dirty, they can be removed and cleaned also the little wheels inside will build up gunk, Qtip and alcohol will remove. The laser mice can sometimes get cat hair or dust on the optics so cleaning that off with a little alcohol can help too. I have had mice stop working properly and this has helped. good luck.

| 2. It's an optical mouse which I've cleaned. The mouse just stops working |
|
like it's turning off and on. I also forgot to mention that I've uninstalled/reinstalled the mouse driver with no success and looked on Logitech's website to see if there is a driver for it. There is no driver for it.
Thank you Betty88 for your idea!

| 3. Mouse drivers are pretty much irrelevant these days |
|
Have you tried it in a different USB port?
Also, when the mouse stops working, can you navigate around using the keyboard? Use Tab, arrow keys, enter & escape, you may need to open some program such as Word or Excel to try this. This will give a clue whether it's the mouse itself that has frozen or the computer/program.

| 4. Check the very bottom (The Underside) of your keyboard. |

Sometimes there is a setting with a manual switch, that determines which mouse you are using. It is rather prominent, so if you don't have such a thing on your keyboard's bottom, don't drive yourself crazy looking for it. If it's there, you'll see it at once.
If it gets pushed over to the other setting, the mouse that worked will no longer work, till you inadvertantly push the toggle back. (Since it is on the bottom or reverse side of the keyboard, it can get shoved around as you move your keyboard.)
