Okay, I'm on dialup. How do I get Firefox to download so that I can navigate without IE's interruptions?

and download it. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefoxSure, it might take an hour or so but it will be worth it. I was still on dial-up when I first installed Firefox many years ago.

http://www.sector101.fsnet.co.uk/keepalive/Open that in another tab/window and that might help trick your connection into thinking you're not idle.

Somewhere with a fast connection, take a flash drive with you.

| 4. I'll be giving a couple of these a try |
|
as soon as I can. I do have access to wifi spots, but I'm not carrying my computer out into the sub-zero weather; with my luck, I'd slip on the ice and fall on the thing. Somebody in the building (don't know who) has unsecured wifi, but IE won't connect to anything through it and I'm reluctant to go further on that route.
Frustrating, so I'm doubly thankful for your assistance!

| 6. You could also try an older, smaller version of Firefox |
|
http://www.oldversion.com/Mozilla-Firefox.htmlThat way, once you get it downloaded and installed, you can take advantage of the pause/resume feature in Firefox's download manager, when you upgrade to a newer version.

| 5. Download is faster if you do it between midnight and 5 AM or so |
|
because sensible people are tucked into their beddy byes and offline and there's less traffic at download sites.
Good luck. I keep lousy hours so it always worked well for me.
