Sound problem

[HERVEPA]

Dell Inspiron. Windows 7

Plays CD fine.
Platy anything from internet or e-mail attachment and sound is minimal to non-existent.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1. Which applications are you trying to use ?

Windows Media Player or Winamp or another one ? Does the problem happen on all audio applications ?

2. Thanks Steve. Good question. I'll check when I'm home tonight. Also,

Happens for everything except when I play a CD from my drive.
i.e. Youtube, Audio message sent to me in an e-mail, and such.
With the speakers all the way up I canhear the sound just barely, but it is clear, not distorted.

It talks about Vista but I would think it would apply, mostly, to Win7 also.
