| I Have .cue and .bin Files: How Do I Play Them? |
|
I have a small .cue file and a large .bin file with video on them.
Are these compressed? Can I paly them on a DVD? I tried to write them on a DVD drive and the program said "current project does not match inserted media".
I don't do much with media files. Just wondering if there's a way to look at them.

I'm making a few assumptions about your OS and such, but since you mention them in combination, that's probably right.
The .bin file is the data, and the .cue is a text file that describes the structure of the data. Used in conjunction, you can burn a disc with them using something like Nero. If you have that program, you load it, say you want to start a Disc Image project, and load the .cue file. Make sure they are both in the same directory and that the info in the .cue file doesn't point anywhere else. (Open it with a text editor and see that there is no drive or path information associated with the name of the .bin file.)
Nero will take care of the rest. You can then play the disc in an appropriate player. It's probably the image of a CD, btw. I've never seen a DVD disc project saved like this.

you can right click on the .cue file and "open with" in Textpad. Then you can read just some of the settings, etc. This might help with settings if Nero balks at burning it.
Alternatively, you can get a proggie like ISOBuster and simply extract the .bin file into a folder on your hard drive. Odds are what is in there is a compressed .avi file, anyway, so you can simply view it from your hard drive instead of on a CD.

This is a little proggie that will allow you to mount them as virtual optical drives. Then you'll be able to read them like you would any other CD or DVD drive. After you mount the .cue file using Daemon Tools, you'll have an extra drive under My Computer. Very handy if you don't want to waste media by burning a disc. http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5
