What weird habits and obsessions do your pets have?

My dear departed Peewee had an obsession with rubber bands and women's nylons; they always ended up in his water dish



Puck loves to climb people to reach high perches. Rather painful and startling!





Miro sticks out his tongue when he's happy. He also snores, grunts when he eats, and somehow manages to "moo" instead of meow.



Oberon has a packing tape obsession. He licks rolls and pulls out bits from the trash to chew on. Ugh!

1. What cute pictures!

My dachshund, Brutus, has an obsession with rocks. He is in heaven if we're out working in the yard digging or tossing rocks. (You should have seen him when they were digging our pool!) He likes to chew on rocks and he really loves it if it "accidentally" gets pushed under the couch so that he can scratch and cry and "worry" till someone lifts the couch so he can get it.

It actually gets annoying so I'll take the rock and throw it out the door as far as I can. I live in Central Texas where we grow rocks but he'll be back five minutes later with the exact same rock! I've actually thrown rocks in the trash before to get them away from him!

8. Tough on the little guy's teeth!

He sounds like a raccoon I have in the back yard. He collect rocks, then uses them to bang against my back door! He won't stop until I give him a food treat in exchange for the rock. Damned clever beasts!

2. I have a cat, Velcro, who is KRAZY for bubble wrap.

He can smell it, open cabinets to find it and loves to chew on it, rub and wrap himself in it.

5. Awwww. I had a baby raccoon named Velcro

a friend found her in the middle of a toll plaza on the freeway (mom couldn't be found). As soon as I gave her some KMR milk, her "mommy" switch went off, and I was "mom" from that point on. She couldn't bear to be separated from me for a moment! If I tried putting her in a care, she would wail like a human baby, and stretch out her hands towards me through the bars, whimpering pitifully. I couldn't bear it. I took to wearing a windbreaker all day with Velcro happily cooing in the front pouch. Here's a pic:



Once she could eat solid food, I took her to a wildlife rehab center. They put her in a pen with other baby raccoons, and gradually weaned her off human contact. Leaving her there was one of the hardest things I've ever done! But it was for the best...

I hope you get a photo someday of your Velcro in a bubble wrap induced frenzy; he sounds hilarious!

16. They said she adapted well (after about a week of

being very clingy and crying alot). They released her and four or five other young raccoons at a preserve that they owned; hundreds of acres with a stream and a lake. I hope she's still out there with cubs of her own. She was such a sweetie!

15. I saw on the Pet Psychic that a dog that does that smells something

in the plastic that reminds them of something. That is why they destroy remotes and phones.

4. Einstein......

whom is 16 has figured out how to balance himself on the john and drink out of it with out falling in ( he weighs 8 lbs).

I love your PICS of the babies..they are beautiful. Einstein would never go to the height..it would frighten him. He is 100% a lover. Feed him and give him lots of kisses and he is happy.

6. Did you ever attempt to teach him

how to use the john? My dad potty trained his cat, but Pippin never had Eistein's supurb sense of balance. Eventually he fell in and that was the end of that!

10. I've heard of it...BUT never tried.....

For 11 of Einstein's 16 years he had his own potty( had two bathrooms) and now I'm afraid it's too late....What is hilarious is we potty together....I swear! He can be sound asleep and IF I go into the potty he will follow and go potty too.

It brings us closer together to go potty together!

9. I had a cat as a kid who drank out of the john

He could only reach the water if the seat was up. He draped himself over the rim of the bowl in such a way as to look like he was busy barfing into it. It was hilarious.

12. my cat Cassanova

is obsessed with string and string like objects. He cries incessantly for me to play with him, drags it to bed with me and then cries. One time i made the mistake of buying him a string w/feather at the end toy. he wanted to play constantly even when it caused a sore on his mouth from the string rubbing and he still wouldn't stop. i eventually had to hide it from him,he cried for days after that.

and my cat Thrawn is totally obsessed with some rocks my roommate brought back from a shopping center parking lot. He loves them so much he won't let the other cats near them. He uses them for pillows, he bats them around tosses them. it's hilarious to watch.

13. The feather toy, also known as "Da Bird"

my guys have some of those too. I say "some", because Oberon keeps crunching up the feathers (they don't make "Maine Coon strength" bird toys) so I've been hand making new attachments with a cheap bag of feather and a glue gun!

Oberon and Puck do the same standing over the toy and wailing thing. It can just about make you nuts! I do play with them every day though; good for their hearts and all that.

Thrawn's obsession with the rocks is so cute! Just what kind of rocks are those, anyway? Why are they so special?

appear to be volcanic, basalt probably. i see nothing special about them. these aren't small rocks, the largest is baseball sized and his favorite.

I think poor Miro gets slighted a lot because his new buddies are, well, new ;-).

Well, let's see, Boris likes to lick anything made of metal. I mean anything, I found him licking the metal ruler on my drafting table the other day, lol. He licks his sister's dog tag all the time too. Yesterday I had a box cutter (was putting up Xmas decorations) on the floor and he found it and started licking it! Luckily I got it away before he cut his tongue. He also likes to lick skin. Feet and bald heads especially. Last Sunday I had some friends over to watch a football game and Boris climbed up on the back of the couch to get to one of my guests and started licking the top of his shaved head! It was so embarrassing!

The most peculiar thing Tasha does is eat lying down. She curls up around the bowl and eats lying down. I've never seen another dog do this.

20. Miro is just the most non-photogenic cat EVER!

I took about 45 photos of him on Friday, trying to get just ONE to use for my Christmas card. I swear to God, that animal has ESP and knows EXACTLY when I'm going to press the button! He always either turns away or shuts his eyes and puts his nose to the floor. I thought it was the flash the first few years I had him (bad light in my old apartment) but he does it when the flash is turned off as well. I have three semi-OK shots of him (of the hundreds taken over the years), and those were taken by hiding the camera and getting his attention with treats. I used treats and toys Friday, but I was cursing like a sailor by the end of our photo session! He'd look unbearably cute when the camera was busy downloading the last shot, then immediately put his nose to the floor when it was done. Aaargh! I got one really weird shot to use. Maybe I'll post it later. He looks like "Puddin' San the Buddacat" in it, lol!

You should get a photo of Boris licking a bald head. Too funny! I think Tasha's habit of eating while reclining is adorable. She was Queen Cleopatra in a former life, after all. ;-)

22. Oberon makes a good Santa

He's got a natural beard. Very cute!

Well, Miro is just camera shy, but the antler one is cute.
I know what you mean though, I can rarely get Boris to "smile" for a photo. I was cruising through all the photos I have of the two of them and he's only smiling in like 2! Every time I get the camera out, he puts on his serious face. He has an absolutely adorable smile too, I mean, he's cute beyond words when he's smiling. When he's not, he tends to look intimidating.

25. Socks in the water dish

Since we moved to the new place she's stopped doing that. However, the new place has lots of leaky taps.

My theory is she was asking for her water to be replaced. Now that she's got access to fresh water she no longer cares.

Bought new taps last night. We'll see what happens.

27. I once had a dog that was obsessed with removing rocks from

the bottom of creeks, small rivers, streams anywhere he found rocks submerged in water. He would stick his entire head up to the collar under water, with his eyes open and poke and nose until he found the "right"rock, drag it out to the shore and jump right back in and go after another one. He would do this for hours, even if it really was too cool to go in the water. I have seen this dog shivering and fighting to get back in the water to "finish the job" even though we were dragging him away to try to get him warm and dry.

He also would chase sticks into the river, swim back with them and deposit them always into the same pile on the shore. Woe be unto anyone who touched the stick stash! I tried it once and the little woofer almost attached me; barking and snatching the stick out of my hand and dragging it back to the pile.
