Do any of your older, spayed females dogs have urinary incontinence problems?

If so, do you have suggestions on how to treat it? Am giving Prion but it doesn't work too well.

1. When I read your post, I checked the name of the med that my

daughters dog has to take for just that problem. She was very sick from a reaction to another medicine and ended up in the Vet Intensive care hospital.

I thought it might be another possibility that you could check with your Vet.

It is the same. Proin 50 and she has to have a quarter pill every evening. If not, her muscles will not constrict and she will just dribble--and she is not even aware of it.

E-mail Drs. Foster & Smith, they have several products. I think they have an on-line help section that may be of some help.

3. Thanks, Paper Roses...Do you have any idea of how much your daughter's

dog weighs? Our girl is around a hundred lbs.. Am thinking she could be on the wrong dosage....z

5. She is a Yellow Lab and weighs in at about 65 pounds.

Or maybe a little more. She is now 10 years old.

I believe the medication comes in several doses. Ask your vet if she should be on a higher dose. The stuff works for our now healthy pooch. She was bad for a while and this stuff turned off the faucet completely.

Note I mentioned the label; she gets one quarter of that "50" per day. Sure was fun cutting those horse pills up into quarters. Did the whole batch at once to get it over with.

2. I've been giving Cindy "Leaks No More" for over one year

Its a homeopathic preparation and it works for Cindy. She is just seven years old and has had problems on and off which I believe were caused by the fact she was spayed too young (4 months old). I only have her on a maintenance dose of 10 drops at night. She hasn't had any trouble at all for the past eight months. She was urinating in her sleep whether she was taking a nap, or sleeping at night.

I hope it continues to work, because it is a good alternative to the other stuff and cheap in comparison. I order mine from Amazon, but here is the link from the manufacturer.

6. I followed the dosing instructions and weaned Cindy down to

the 10 drops (she weighs 80 lbs) that I give her at bedtime. I think I paid $27.00 for three bottles on Amazon and it comes from entirelypets.com. You will go through the first bottle pretty quickly because you will have to start out at three doses per day. I think I went through two bottles before we got down to the single maintenance dose.

8. Try parsley

Fresh, chopped parsley. I would mix it in with a half a can of wet food in the morning, then give her one or two peanut butter & parsley "sandwiches" a day. My Cinnamon had gotten to be bad when she was sleeping. It was horrible because she'd wake up and you could tell she was upset with herself. One of the girls I used to work with suggested fresh parsley because it has some sort of diuretic property that aids in full and complete emptying of the bladder. It didn't take long for it to work with her, which was great!!

Now that summer's coming around, it'll be thunderstorm terra season soon!! She gets leaky when scared, too!! Before the parsley, I had her sleeping on wee wee pads and tried doggie diapers!! I felt so bad for her, but it was pretty funny seeing her in the diaper! That only last a couple of nights before I tried the parsley!

9. Interesting. May try it with my Belle just to see if it works as well with her.

Right now, am giving her 1/4 tablet Proin in the evening and amazingly enough that low dosage daily is working well now. And she weighs in around a hundred pounds. Thanks for sharing.....z
