Learning about a new kitty is a long process.

Since I adopted this sweet bundle of fur, I have asked for a lot of advice. I think I've cured or come to grips with her idiosyncrasies but I've got a new one.

She will not drink water from her water dish. She runs into the kitchen every time I am there and hops up to wait for the faucet to be turned on. I have changed dishes, moved the bowl, tried everything I can think of.

Yesterday my son-in-law bought a watering station for her. It is called Auto-Flow Pet Fountain by Animal Planet-or-endorsed by them. It is for kitties and works like a bubbler with a tray and small fountain in the middle.
A. She does not like it.
B. It is noisy
C. It is huge. My kitchen is not large. Even if she would use it, I'll trip over it some day, I'm sure.

Anyone here have a kitchen faucet cat? Were you able to find something that would work? What do you think of this?

It is very pricey to just buy as an experiment. Any other suggestions?

1. I have a bathroom faucet cat.

2. The cat sounds like it's as interested in the company as in the water

I've read the reviews of the Drinkwell, and I'd probably try it for a tap water kitty, but not out here in NM. According to the reviews, the filters and rings tend to clog easily and the water out here is hard as a rock. Depending on your water supply, you probably wouldn't have that sort of trouble with it.

If, however, puddytat is looking for the company as much as or more than the water, you'll get another aristocratic upturned nose at the arrangement.

The sound of the fountain would be nice and soothing, though, and an added feature for me.

But not with New Mexico water.

Kitty would just have to learn to use her bowl.

3. When my one cat was diagnosed with kidney disease, I bought

a fountain. I hated it. I too have a small kitchen and it was huge (there are smaller ones). It was noisy and the cats were afraid of it for a day or two. After that, they loved loved loved it. Played in it, made a total mess all the time with water all over. I just hated that thing. But they loved it. When Pudding passed away, I put it away, not knowing if I would have a problem with my other kitty or not. So far, I have not had to get it back out, but I do think he misses it. God I hated it.

Anyways, if you choose to keep it, give it some time for the cat to get used to it and the noise. Your cat may just love moving water and this will take care of that. Or you may want to find a smaller one to try.

4. All my cats...

...jump into the bathtub and wait for me to turn the water on for a 'splash' so they can drink the running water.

When I had to leave in October, I put a bowl under the faucet in the tub and left the water on a very slow drip/trickle so that the bowl would always be full and the water fresh and running. They LOVED it...preferred it to their usual bowl that gets changed daily.
All the cats who've graced me with their presence seem to enjoy drinking from the bathtub.

One of the cat rescue places has gotten some of those decorator fountains- you know, the cute little desktop kind that mimic a waterfall. They have them sitting around specifically for their cats to use as drinking fountains. I don't recall these fountains as being exceptionally noisy, and they can be placed other places than the kitchen floor (read: you're not going to be tripping on it ;) ).

Hope this helps...a persnickety kitty can drive you crazy trying to please them! :banghead:

5. I have one who loved to drink out of the bathroom faucet, or bowl

at one house I had. Other times he only drinks out of my glass of water. Then for a while he would use one glass I dedicated for him.
Now he is back to the bowl. But I think all cats have a fascination for the water coming directly out of the tap.
And the shower.

6. One of my cats is like that too

prefers to jump up on the counter and drink out of a bowl or cup in the sink instead of the bowl on the floor.
