Benefits of adopting an older dog

Saw this video this morning and wanted to share. For those who missed it we had to put down our 16 year old yesterday. I'm considering going to the Humane Society today to find a companion for our brood and to continue to try to bring new life to a shelter dog.

There are plenty of very good dogs that need homes at the local shelter. I hope you find a new friend soon.

video did not mention that adopting an older dog is also a shorter commitment than adopting a young one. Glad you are considering adopting soon.

3. Older dogs won't chew up your couch

I am never getting a puppy again.

I got Bee when he was 6 weeks old (too young, but his mom needed to go back to work). I do not miss potty-training a puppy in the dead of winter. I also do not miss coming home and finding the couch all torn up.

I got Maddy when she was about a year old. She was totally unused to living inside. She would do things like try to steal food off of the hot stove! She also destroyed a couch.

I got Pip when she was about 4, and she was a perfect dog from day one. :D

4. I've adopted adult cats and it's the same thing

They come with manners and knowing a few words (in Spanish for my cats, I adapted). It takes a little longer to build trust with them but they've got the sense to be grateful when they realize you're their new person.
